Character history: James T Kirk was born in Iowa on March 22, 2233 to George and Winona Kirk. He has one brother, George Samuel ‘Sam‘ Kirk, who died April 13 2267, and a son unknown to him named David Marcus. At the age of 13, Jim Kirk witness the murder of over 4,000 colonists on the planet Tarsus IV by Governor Kodos. Four years later, he enlists in Star Fleet and participates in the Axanar peace mission. The mission earns him his first citation, ‘The Palm Leaf of Axanar’, which was the start of his rapid rise in Star Fleet. At the age of 31, he becomes the youngest Captain in Starfleet, taking his first command, the USS Enterprise. The Enterprise, NCC-1701, was one of 12 Constitution class starships tasked with five year missions of exploration, and diplomacy. These next five years establish Kirk as one of the greatest Starship Commanders in Federation history.
Character personality: He is a man with a strong set of moral values which are centered around his Starfleet career. He will risk his life for what he believes to be right. He will fight those he feels are a danger to any peace loving civilization and for the lives of his crew. When threatened he will use diplomacy to great lengths to resolve his problems. However, when this diplomacy fails he will go to even greater lengths of violence to ensure that his will is obeyed. He will often consult those he trusts as advisors to ensure that his temper does not overshadow his responsibilities. Rarely, his desire to revenge himself on those that have done him wrong will drive him to ignore his friends advice. So far, his own moral values have prevented him from completely crossing the line.
Socially, Jim Kirk is approachable and gregarious man who enjoys making new friends. As a leader, Kirk is as charismatic as he is successful and can earn the undying, life-long loyalties of men or women. He often wants to settle down and start a ’real life’, but is too consumed by the need to ’make a difference’. This could be the result of his inability to prevent the massacre of Tarsus IV during his childhood.
Sudden Incarceration at the hands of an ‘unknown power’ is not a new experience to Kirk. On several occasions he has been at the will of others and so far has prevailed against every one of them. He will attempt to escape at every opportunity, and will actively look for ways to identify his jailor and strike back at them. He will even go so far as to try to rally others to his cause. No matter the circumstance, or how shaken he becomes at his inability to be free, he will not break. Using every trick and ploy he can think of he will rebel at the drop of the hat.
Physical description: Please forget for the moment William Shatner, I know too many he is a comical man who doesn’t conform to our current standards of the ‘good-looking’ man. He was an actor that at the time played a much beloved character. Please also forget Chris Pine, who is often though of as a ‘good-looking’, but I believe to be too young and thin to be the Jim Kirk of the original series. Jim Kirk is a good-looking MAN. It is easily recognizable that he is in his very early thirties with a very athletic build and broad shoulders. He has a very commanding presence, a warm disarming smile, and the large, strong hands of a farmer. With all of his character traits, it is easy to (once you have gotten to know the man.) imitate is mannerisms whether it be his stammering style of speech when stressed or purposeful style of walking.
Magical powers or special skills: Jim Kirk is a natural born leader, tactician, and athlete who has honed his skills with his Star Fleet training and years of service in space. He is a extremely gifted hand to hand fighter who can take on multiple opponents his own size or hold his own against larger, stronger opponents. His physical abilities are backed up by an indomitable will that has been tested against extreme torture. He is very intelligent and possesses training in operation and repair of 23rd century Star Trek technology.
